Ground Line Pumps vs Boom Line Pumps

While the service of some concrete suppliers ends once your concrete mix has been delivered, at Chorley Concrete we strive to make the entire process easier for our customers.

So, as well as delivering bespoke concrete mixes across Wigan, Chorley, Preston, Warrington and throughout the North West, we’ll also help ensure you can seamlessly transport it to the required area on your site.

To achieve this, we offer a leading concrete pumping service.

This includes ground line pumps and a boom pump hire service, and in this article, we’ll explore the different options, helping you decide on which is best for you.

What is concrete pumping?

In some circumstances, moving concrete from A to B is extremely straightforward – especially if the pour site is close to a concrete truck or mixer.

However, this is not always the case.

Sometimes there are obstacles in the way or the pour site is a significant distance from your mix.

In these instances, people sometimes opt for wheelbarrows to transport the mix. However, this process is cumbersome, labour-intensive and can be wasteful if any of the concrete is spilt.

Concrete pumping offers a simple solution to this problem, transporting mixes with ease to where they need to go in an accurate and efficient manner.

Ground line pumps vs boom line pumps

If you need to get your concrete mix to a hard-to-reach area of your site, then concrete pumping is an excellent choice.

There are two types of concrete pumps – ground line pumps and boom line pumps. No matter which option you choose, both provide you with a vast reach that can seamlessly transport your mix from a concrete truck or mixer to the area of the site where the concrete is needed.

What are ground line pumps?

A ground line pump, sometimes referred to as a stationary pump, is essentially a type of hose that is connected to a concrete truck or mixer and is extended along the floor of a site.

The mix is then poured through the hose to the area where the concrete is required. The hose can easily navigate around obstacles, through narrow spaces and even across buildings if necessary.

Typically, ground line pumps are more suitable for smaller or domestic projects as opposed to large-scale commercial ones.

At Chorley Concrete, our ground line pumps are extremely flexible and provide a lower-volume capacity which makes them ideal for domestic construction work. Plus, they can extend up to 120m in length so even the most hard-to-reach areas will be covered.

What are boom line pumps?

Boom pumps operate using an arm that is connected to the concrete truck and which is able to rise to great heights to get the mix where it needs to be.

So, if you have high obstacles or buildings that you need to get the mix over, or you’re working at a large height, the boom pump can efficiently transport the concrete.

More suited to commercial projects and areas where concrete needs to be delivered with accuracy to considerable heights, at Chorley Concrete our boom pumps can reach heights of up to 56 metres. They’re also operated using a remote-controlled hydraulic arm that ensures precise placement.

If you’re looking for concrete pumping solutions in the North West, Chorley Concrete is here to help. Our ground line pumps and boom line pumps can help make your next project run even smoother, and when partnered with our range of concrete mixes, you can ensure it’s a great success.
